Can nickel alloys be used at low temperatures?

Nickel alloys retain their room temperature properties over a far wider temperature range than many stainless steels. Whereas the impact strength (toughness) of many stainless steels will drop-off at very low temperatures and exhibit brittle fracture if shock loaded, it is far more consistent for nickel alloys. Therefore, despite their increased costs, nickel alloys will be selected if the finished component needs to perform a more structural role at very low or very high temperatures.
